YAY! - February 7
Hey everyone, here are the minutes from last week!!
--We had a new member!!! (Which was great since like all y'all were gone) Her name is Ozy and she's been on the listserv for a while and finally has Thursdays free. Hey Ozy!
--We wrote out all out own goals and shared them with each other and then brainstormed group goals.
1. Make the event a success
2. Getting new members
3. Improve attendance
4. Group Unity (Such as bonding outside meetings)
5. Keep focus during meetings
--Then we wrote letters for Noah. Noah is a middle schooler who has been bullied and threatened killing himself on his birthday which was last week. So we all wrote him a personal letter and I sent those off to him. Hopefully those will truly brighten his day when he gets them.
--We ended out with some highs and lows :)

9 pm meeting starts
Elizabeth: Next Tuesday is National TWLOHA day. We have a table in skutt by the fireplace from 11-3. We need people to sign up to be at the table. So if you're free anytime that day let me or another exec know and we'll put you down for a time to be at the table. Last year we used a fears vs dreams concept on a whiteboard and we think that was really effective so we’re going to use that idea again and put the pictures on the TWLOHA webpage. Laura is going to create a facebook event. So invite as many people as you'd like.
9:05
Big spring event in February. We’re going to do lyrics and conversation. Model it after last years event. People sharing their stories mixed in with musical acts. Relaxing night of conversation and music. We picked the third week of February on Thursday from Eight to Eleven. February 21 from 8-11 in Java Jays.
- Do we want to apply for funding? Try to apply with IRHG and CSU and get Sodexho snacks. Carloyn is going to look into that.
We're going to reuse the posters from the Red Flag event last year and re-purpose them a bit for this and start putting those up as soon as possible.
9:13
watching a video about the stages of grief. From Robot Chicken.
- Denail. Anger. Bargaining. Depression. Acceptance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_Z3lmidmrY
9:18
Elizabeth is sharing about her personal experience with grief.
- TWLOHA talks about taboo things, It’s what we do here. We try to figure out ways to help each other through these things.
9:50
HIGHS AND LOWS
10:23
Meeting is complete!
(Thank you Allyson!)

Heavy Week: Stigma 4 Oct 2012
Attendance: Laura, Danny, Jordan, Remi, Mekenzie, Carolyn, Katie, Katherine
Ice breaker: we tossed a ball with questions on it, and you had to answer the question that landed under your thumb.
Our new event coordinator is Carolyn! (yay!) This is with our upcoming event: Lyrics and Conversation. We are having art forms, and people sharing their stories in between. We need to start Advertising for the event. Email us your ideas. Carolyn came up with a name: "Sing. Speak. Share."
We also discussed enemies of unity:
-Handing up and handing down: Gossip that is negative should be handed up to execs, gossip that is positives should be handed down.
-Lack of shared purpose: When we lose sight of the vision and mission of the group, we are not going to get anywhere.
-unresolved disagreement: If there is a disagreement, we need to act quickly and kindly with maturity and love.
This is a heavy topic week. We watched a video about Royce White, a pro basketball palyer who has OCD and generalized anxiety disorder, and discussed stigmas related to the issues our group deals with. Here is a current news article on him:http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8462653/royce-white-houston-rockets-agree-innovative-travel-plan
And we finished off with highs and lows.
Have a great week! Good luck with midterms!

TWLOHA Minutes 9/28/12
Our meeting was led by our fabulous ghost president, Elizabeth (but she is a friendly ghost). Carolyn, Katherine, Katie, Remi, Elizabeth, and Danny were there.
Our icebreaker was "If you had to give up a sense, what would you give up?"
We discussed TWLOHA Day (Nov 13) and started planning and getting ready for it.
We also want to have a movie night (TBD). We spoke about which movies we watch when we are in a bad mood, which movies we watch when we are in a good mood, and which movies deal with issues that we discuss in our weekly meetings.
We finished off with support and love!
See you tomorrow!

"No really though, we love each other" Minutes - 9/6/2012
These lovely people were there: Jordan, Danny, Laura, Emilee, Remi, Carolyn, Katie, Lydia, and Elizabeth.
A quick icebreaker tonight. Name and if you could have any pet what would you have.
The Out of the Darkness Walk (a suicide prevention walk) is taking place on Sunday, September the 16th at noon. We will meet in Deglman circle at 11:30 to carpool. Jordan can drive five people total. Can somebody else bring a car? Patrick and Ali (two very special alum) may try to meet us there. If you are interested in participating, contact Jordan.
Involvement fair is on Wednesday, September 12 from 1:30-4. We need volunteers to sit at the table, and help set up and takedown. If you can volunteer, let Jordan know. If you can’t make it, at least stop by and say hi! :) Expect an email from Jordan about time slots soon! (Keep your eyes open)
We also need a poster or flyer to put up around campus to help with recruitment. Contact Jordan!
Also, remember that we are representatives of this organization. We do have fun, but at the involvement fair, remember to engage people and show them just how fun TWLOHA can be!
Monday is National Suicide Prevention Day, and next week (9/10-9/14) is suicide prevention week. Wear something orange on Monday or a TWLOHA shirt. Execs will be posting blog posts each day, so visit to read up (see link below). We also kindly ask that you post something on your Facebook pages. Something along the lines of:
“Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. I am a member of (tag page here) Creighton University – TWLOHA and I refuse to remain silent. Preventing suicide isn’t simple but I believe that hope is real.”
We have an awesome blog, but it is very lonely. (see below) If you want to contribute to the blog at any time, contact any exec. We would love to have your contributions.
TWLOHA is no longer anti-social! (At least online). Events, announcements, reminders, pics, and other fun things will be on all of our social media pages:
- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twlohacreighton
- Twitter: @TWLOHACreighton
- Blog: http://twloha-creighton.blogspot.com
We finished off with highs and lows/support and love. <3

Minutes 3/31
Minutes 3/31
Pat, Caitlin, Milana, Angela, Hillary, Katie, and Liz were present.
We discussed Katy Perry’s marriage to Russell Brand. Some members approved while others did not. Milana thinks he has “too much eyebrows.”
Then Pat played “Peacock” by Katy Perry and proceeded to dance.
Caitlin, Liz, and Milana played with balloons, and it was highly entertaining.
Ok, on to the actual meeting…
Pat talked about elections, which will be next week. Send nominations to him via email. (The positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian.)
The meeting next week will be in Harper in the normal room. We will probably just do elections next week and that’s all.
Tonight for our meeting we attempted to make Postsecrets, but ended up just making signs and such. Yay!
We ended the meeting with highs and lows.
Friday, February 18, 2011
Minutes 2/17
Milana, Caitlin, Liz, Hilary, Pat, Andrew, Katie, and Angela were present.
We started off the meeting very “Rude!” (not really, but it’s fun to say)
Pat talked about the new newsletters every UChapter will be getting monthly. He will send it out in an e-mail.
Some news: Denny from headquarters is stepping down from the UChapters director and Holly is taking over. He got into grad school to get his Masters in counseling…yay Denny!
Pat talked about the TWLOHA Street Team. If you belong to the team you can promote TWLOHA and get points, which are like store credits and you can get free stuff! Yeah stuff! Go to http://towriteloveonherarms.fancorps.com/headquarters/groups to sign up! (Make sure to let Pat or Karissa know your user name so they can send it to headquarters.)
We watched a video from headquarters about the TWLOHA Intern Program. It’s a really awesome opportunity. Watch the video to learn more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dILAUKV9Kus
We went over some constitution updates from headquarters. We talked a lot about headquarters today, as you can see.
Oh hey, another thing from headquarters. It’s called the Laude Program. It’s a point system designed to recognize chapters who actually do stuff. We can get points by having programs, fund raisers, benefits, tabling, having a committee, having a Facebook or Twitter page, and enrolling members on the wiki page. Chapters can also be nominated for Chapter of the Year, Chapter Member of the Year, etc.
Hilary told us about an unfortunate suicide that recently happened in her hometown. She thought she would just bring it up because it’s relevant to our club. Even though you didn’t know him, please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Pat attempted to hand out the notes for Project Positivity this week, but it didn’t really work out. Monday he was sick and Tuesday it was really windy and the notes kept blowing away. Sad day. So we still need to hand them out! We think it’s best to wait till it gets warm again because more people are on the mall.
We discussed starting to have dues to help raise money for the Purpose for the Pain event (to pay for the sound equipment) and the TWLOHA tour coming in the fall.
We decided to have a To Write Love on Her Arms Day on March 16th. (The day before Lady Gaga…ahh!) Milana is making the Facebook event while I’m typing this. We will have a table on the mall so people can write love on their arms.
Acoustic Night will be March 31st. If you have any ideas for artists or want to help in any way, let Pat know. (PatrickMiranda@creighton.edu)
We ended the meeting with highs and lows.
Sunday, February 13, 2011
Minutes 2/10
Meeting Minutes:
Pat, Katie, Elizabeth, Caitlin, and Milana were present.
We shared some laughs and watched a music video by our very own Elizabeth on youtube. (youtube.com/lizmo21)
We then read Karissa’s post on the blog about the truth in the statement “Life goes on” then discussed and shared.
Caitlin’s birthday is 3/14 and Pat’s birthday is 3/17… (see the connection?)
Event planning
TWLOHA day (people write “love” on their arms and happiness ensues).
Wednesday, March 16th (The one day of the week after spring break that some people might not be hungover… email Milana for more details on this logic. milanajordan@creighton.edu)
Then we “ch-ch-ch-choo”-ed
Pat did the Single Ladies dance… then he kicked a field goal and it was GOOOOOD!
Acoustic Night! (Thursday, March 31)
(We’re working on getting artists for this)
If you have any suggestions email Pat (patrickmiranda@creighton.edu)
We watched this lovely video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv3tadz5Q3o)
-Then we got distracted watching “related videos”
We watched the Youtube classic “End of ze world”
We watched the Bed Intruder Christmas Carol song
We discussed our ringtones and how epic they all are
Follow the leader on the mall… ‘nuff said

2/3/11
TWLOHA Minutes 2/3/11
Pat, Katie, Elizabeth, Milana, Caitlin, Angela, and Hilary were present.
We worked on decorating boxes for Project Positivity. We will put the boxes in the residence halls and invite people to submit positive notes. Then we will hand the notes out on the mall on Valentine’s Day and make people smile. (Note: We will not be presenting this event as being connected with Valentine’s Day even though it will be on Valentine’s Day.)
Oh, and we ate yummy snacks :D
Sunday, January 30, 2011
Minutes 1/27/11
TWLOHA Minutes 1/27/11
Pat, Karissa, Hilary, Elizabeth, Angela, Katie, Soko, Jimmy, Jared, and Irsa were present.
Highs and Lows about our breaks was the icebreaker.
Pat read the latest post on the blog aloud.
We had some discussion time and talked about what a new year means to us. We mentioned that a good way to think of a new year is a fresh start, but how that can sometimes be hard.
We talked about New Year’s Resolutions and made some if we didn’t have one.
Soko: I will sleep eight hours every night.
Karissa: I will be more honest with myself, and trust others with how I’m feeling.
Pat: I will try to find something bigger than myself.
Hilary: I will not get caught up in work and try to be more social.
Angela: I will live more in the moment and not unnecessarily worry about the past or future.
Group Resolution: We will support each other and our community.
Goals for the Semester
Purpose for the Pain Event
Red Flag Event (see the minutes from December 2nd for details)
Fundraising – Hilary had the idea to have an event where vendors would rent a space and we would also charge a small fee for admission. Karissa thought maybe we could get other organizations on campus involved.
We are working on flyers to put around campus.
PEAC has given us the responsibility to bring an Out of Darkness Walk to campus.
Karissa talked about the wiki page. An e-mail will be sent out with the information on how to access the page. We want to try to start using it more.
We talked about possibly having a Valentine’s Day event. An idea was to put boxes at all the front desks and have people write positive notes and submit them. Then we would hand them out on the mall to make people’s days a little brighter. We decided to work on this at an upcoming meeting.
Thursday, December 9, 2010
Minutes 12/9
Minutes December 9th
Hilary, Pat, Irsa, Liz, Caitlin, Milana, Claire, Katie, and Angela were there
We made our mixed CDs for the St. Edwards chapter about Hope and The War Within! If you want to write a letter to the members you can drop it off at the Kiewit front desk. Tell the desk worker it’s for Pat and it will be put in his mailbox.
Friday, December 3, 2010
Minutes 12/2/10
December 2nd Meeting
Pat, Karissa, Hilary, Milana, Caitlin, Liz, Elizabeth, Andrew, Katie, and Angela were present
Our meeting’s theme was honesty
We talked about two of our values – help and community
Two truths and a lie was the icebreaker
Karissa read us Pat’s story about honesty (Check it out…it’s posted below!)
We had a little discussion time. We talked about the importance of being honest with yourself and others. Even though sometimes it may be difficult to not push people away, it’s worth it when you’re open with people.
Upcoming Event to raise awareness
A suicide is committed every 40 seconds in the U.S. One day in the spring, we will put a red flag in the ground on the KFC lawn every 40 seconds, each flag representing a person who you may have known or been close to. We will make a poster so people understand the meaning behind the flags. We will also have a table on the mall so people can learn what they can do to help prevent suicide.
CD Exchange
We will be making a CD for St. Edwards University’s chapter in Austin, TX
Pat sent out an email so we can vote on the theme
We will also be writing individual letters to the members of the chapter. Also, we will be thinking of explanations for why we chose each song. Next week’s meeting will be dedicated to working on this.
Saturday, November 6, 2010
